Montreal has a very lively nightlife, attributed in part to many restaurants and clubs that remain open until the sun rises, as well as a very dependable system of night buses that operate from 1-5 AM. The legal drinking age here is 18. There are three top spots for this Montreal's night scene. Crescent is most welcome to Anglophones (that's the English-speaking population) as well as city visitors and students on break, since it's just off the edge of Concordia University. Equally trendy (and pricey) is "The Main", a nickname for Boulevard Saint-Laurent, though you'll find more Francophone (French-speaking) bar hoppers here. Saint-Denis is another strip with a significant Francophone clientele. Saint-Catherine, is also a great place to unwind after all the shopping. After-hours clubs are open from 2-10 am, though don't serve alcohol. These include Stereo, Aria, and Circus, which are all found in Saint-Catherine. There are numerous gay/lesbian bars in Montreal, the majority of which are also in Saint-Catherine, particularly in the aptly-named Gay Village. |
